Dysfashional / Parasite

Paris, Oct.29- Nov.29, 2009, Passage du Désir

A hybrid space between gallery and concept store, PARASITE will be entirely devoted to emerging artists and designers who explore the frontiers of contemporary fashion. Inserted like a cell, it, allows one to see specific objects that are intended, amongst other things, for retail (in the museum shop).

In an attempt to short-circuit the traditional functioning of the shop and exhibition space, PARASITE is a point of ‘contamination’ between creation and commerce in the spirit of a laboratory. It offers an unsettling staging of our way of life, of

our interiors and objects to which we are attached while reconstituting a clean and independent space.

For the PARIS/BERLIN edition, PARASITE renews itself entirely from the Paris - Berlin axis:

- a new production by BLESS inspired by the apartments and living space of fashion personalities which embody Paris and Berlin style.

- a new selection of objects exclusively by young and upcoming designers from Paris and Berlin, chosen by Vidya Narine, director of  the website LENEWBLACK, the first online fashion fair.

Amongst those taking part in Paris : Tsunami-Addiction, music label, press office  and independent press distributor, who will produce for the PARASITE an exclusive music compilation OS DYSCOS by French artists (Milkymee, Hypo, Balula, Kumisolo, Zoe Wolf, Konki Duet); Peepingtom, curator, editor and events producer.

Capital Exchange

Consortium/ Café Pakhuis Wilhelmina - Amsterdam (NL), March 2005

Capital Exchange, Paris "Tsunami-Addiction,

experimental recreation with the creme brulee of Parisian counterculture".

Capital Exchange is a public arena for progressive culture.

CEx facilitates an array of gatherings for research and development of a growing sub-economyby the global DIY society. CEx hosts artists and voices from [capital] cities around the world to share [capital] input for a constructive dialogue between cultural, commercial and administrative parties on the creation of an alternative for, or a more sharing adaptation of the currently dominant capitalist system. Progressive culture can not be submitted to commercial value systems, but it can successfully co-exist on its own terms, adding its own value to society.

The first edition of Capital Exchange introduced the Parisian artists collective Tsunami-Addiction to Amsterdam for the weekend of 12 & 13 March 2005. The event featured a White Cube part with an exhibition by designers Event10, the In-Shop selling T-A related products, a symposium with the artists moderated by Jeremy Abbott from i-D magazine and a cinema with favourite cult movies selected by T-A. The Black Box part featured an intimate dinner party with

the T-A artists and live concerts and DJ sets by Hypo, dDamage, Genau, The Very Apeand Jeremy Abbott.

Lee101 Room

Paris, November 29, 2002. Purple Institute.

Fall 2002 the Lee 101Room hits London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris and Milan.

The Lee 101Room is conceived as a place where people from different cities constructsomething positive. It’s a reaction against Room101 as created by George Orwellin his legendary novel ‘1984’. His Room101 is a terrible place: ‘the worst thing in the world’.It is a de-programming room, creating your own personal hell. The only way to escapeit is to cooperate with The Party (Big Brother) by betraying a friend.

At the beginning of the 21st century Big Brother is closer than we think.

The upcoming Anti Globalism and No Logo movements fight this development.

But what about a ‘pro-value’ or ‘pro-meaning’ movement? That’s the goal

of the Lee 101Room. The Lee 101 Room is a gathering place for young people centeredaround their personal dreams instead of their personal hell. Notice that we literally turn the name around: ‘101 Room’ instead of ‘Room 101’. It will be constructed by what we call‘Lee Builders’. The Lee Builders are not anti, nor are they part of a counterculture. They agree with the goals of these movements, but would do it differently themselves;more clever, more constructive. By changing the system from within.

As a starting point, in all five cities, Lee builders were chosen. The group representsinteresting disciplines in the different cities (performing arts in Amsterdam, visual designin Berlin, electronic music in Paris, journalism in London and graphic design in Milan). In the Lee 101 Room they unite their skills into one constructive and inspiring project.

So we proudly present. From Berlin: Leigh Haas, visual designer. From London:

Sarah Hay, journalist. From Paris: dDamage, electronic noise band. From Amsterdam:Martin Butler, choreographer. From Milan: Golab, graphic designers.

The result of this collaboration will be shown from half October until the end of November in the different cities. Every weekend, the Lee 101Room will hit a different city.

In-Shop Session

The in-shop session was created in 2001, as a private store, open once in a while in different places, in different cities, guesting indie, alternative labels and independent publishing houses (books, zines, records, fashion artefacts...)

It is non-profitable (the selling price is chosen by the publishers and artists and we make no benefit) and it relies on the works and publications of people we trust and respect.

Open one day, in one space, with a specific selection of books, magazines, music etc., one band performing (showcase). We offer hospitality & drinks, and everything is cheap.
